Michelle Kavanaugh is a native New Mexican who grew up in Albuquerque and proudly attended Albuquerque Public Schools and graduated from CNM. A champion for her community, a member of a strong union family, she began her social justice career with Rock the Vote, was an organizer for American Federation of Teachers New Mexico, and spent several years as a Field Representative for US Senator Tom Udall. Focusing on social justice issues, she helped Senator Udall champion the For the People Act – an Act to expand Americans' access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy. She’s watched her mother, Rep. Christine Trujillo, serve her community as a Labor Leader and a State Representative, and she’s stepping up for public office because she knows this office is critical to Bernalillo County’s residents and to New Mexico.
